When my wife/manager and I first began this little venture, my vision was to avoid certain phrases, and ‘Motivational Speaker’ was one. With all due respect, I see motivational speakers as modern day snake oil salesmen. Where have we come in our society that we actually need to pay people for the sole purpose of motivating us? If I need motivation I just watch the sun come up, it’s free!
I also refused to be pigeonholed into a specific category. My message is based around my battle against addiction and where I allowed it to take me, but being a recovered addict does not even begin to define the message. I am a Christian and my message is spiritually based, however, it applies to everyone. The language of the message speaks to youth as well as adults, the religious as well as secular organizations – of course this ruffles the feathers of both sides of the aisle. Secularist get angry because of the spiritual message and the religious side gets angry because I refuse follow a set of traditions and rituals; I do so love to Rock the Boat! If I did it any differently then I would not be true to myself or what I feel I am being directed to do by a Power much greater than myself.
It’s time to wake up! Our Children step out our front doors and face things that none of us can even begin to imagine. We have lost site of the beauty of creation, and how we individually contribute to its harm. It’s as if we go through our day wearing blinders, preparing for the worse and hoping for the best. We each have a purpose and an obligation to follow through with that purpose. No human being will ever save this world, and no one individual will ever change the world, but you do have the ability to change your world.
Only when you change your world, and I change my world, do we have the ability to change the world.
Are you willing to embrace that purpose and risk making that change? I am.
